Hi, my name is Rae and I set up this page to help in whatever way I could, to raise funds to help a wonderful individual called Carol, who has been helping our sick and injured wildlife for more than 25 years. Over 55 acres she’s providing a safe haven for kangaroos, wombats, sugar gliders, possums, galahs, lorikeets, parrots and any other sick or injured native wildlife that need rehabilitation. The majority of animals that come into her care are as a result of human interaction - including many joeys whose mothers have died after being hit by a car.
Due to the large number of wildlife on the property at any one time, it’s a full time job for Carol – 24/7 full time. One for which she receives NO salary and NO financial support from anywhere. Between her and her incredibly supportive husband Mark, it all comes out of their pocket: food, shelter, medication. Not to mention the hours given in love, nurturing and rehabilitation.
Since the funds have been coming in Carol has been able to purchase bulk Wombaroo ($400 specialist milk replacer), complete a new aviary for the birds, heat packs for the kangaroo joeys and darting (expensive) to relocate some big roos for release back into the wild. It’s been great just to buy extra feeding dishes since the wombats constantly knock them down into the burrows and they disappear!
More importantly, the extra money has meant that Carol doesn’t have to say “NO – I can’t take that sick animal because I can’t afford to look after it” She told me the other day “I don’t know how we would have done any of this without that extra money – I’m so grateful” And I can promise you – Carol is spending this cash on those animals the minute she gets it.
I started this originally with the intention of raising a one-off donation of $2,000 but now I’ve seen just how much it all costs and how much more is needed I’m continuing my efforts trying to raise money to give her every month. It’s never enough money for what she does, but it certainly helps save more lives.
Thank you to everyone who has donated past and present. All funds go directly to her shelter bank account monthly (less My Cause fees) and are very appreciated by Carol and her volunteers. Check out the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/monbulkwildlifeshelter for updates and photos.
If you happen to be at South Melbourne Market, be sure to pop by The Pet Grocer. These wonderful guys have a donation box on their front counter, and they match dollar for dollar - they've been a massive help to us and we're incredibly grateful for their contributions.
