Hi! I'm Teurai Chanakira and I'm running in the 10km race in the Melbourne Marathon Festival on 14 October 2012 because of a cause very close to my heart. The Elizabeth Chanakira Cancer Trust (ECCT) was birthed in Zimbabwe after my mother, Elizabeth Chanakira, lost her 7-year battle to cancer in December 2010. The ECCT supports marginalized cancer patients and provides practical, nutritional tools for better health.
In July 2012, we lost one of the patients we were looking to support - Yvonne - to Kaposi Sarcoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). She is survived by one 10-year old son, Tapiwa. I am running and asking you to support me with raising $120 ($40/school term) for Tapiwa's school fees, 2 uniforms and 2 pairs of shoes ($70).
The ECCT believes that nutrition and health are intrinsically linked so I am also running to feed a family of 4 with essentials for six months which equals a $600 target. My total target is $790.
