Help Nathan Get Top Surgery

My name is Nathan and I am a 22 year old trans man. For the longest time, my biggest dream is to have top surgery. Everyday I’m forced to bind my chest in unhealthy ways, causing either rib damage or inflammation from binders, and torn skin and tissue damage from taping. Top surgery would not only help me physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. I struggle with severe dysphoria on a daily basis that sometimes restricts my ability to leave the house in fear of being misgendered or even hatecrimed.

I am blessed to have a very supportive family consisting of 2 brothers, my mum and my stepdad. I am looking towards starting study next year which will allow me to be added onto my mum’s health insurance, which will slightly discount the surgery as well as the hospital stay afterwards.

A little backstory to my journey:

In early 2020 I publicly came out as trans to my family and friends, as well as on social media. I was able to get onto testosterone quite quickly, due to me already being 18.

I started testosterone on June 15, 2020 with the amazing help from my family, doctors, a teacher from my old high school and psychiatrists/psychologists. I have since had to stop taking it due to financial stress back in October of 2021 but am aiming to start back up this year (2024)

I had my first consult with my surgeon, Dr. Alys Saylor at The Valley Plastic Surgery in Brisbane, back in November of 2021. All that is required to go forward is the finances and a referral from a psychologist to deem the surgery medically necessary.

I’ve set the goal to $10,000 as the old one accumulated just over $1,000. My mum has kept all the money accumulated in a savings account which is slowly gaining interest and we now have around $1,200 saved. The surgery is estimated to be $11,500. Any money left after surgery will be shared across to other trans people in need. Thank you to anyone who has donated and shared. I am so beyond thankful.
