Earlier this year I ran Ice Ultra marathon 230 km self-sufficient foot race in the Arctic circle in Sweden.
Over 5 days I experienced daytime temperatures as low as -40 degrees, run across snowfields, Arctic tundra and frozen lakes.
The challenge tested my strength, endurance, mental toughness and self-sufficiency skills in the unforgiving arctic environment. I became the first Australian to finish the race, placed third of all women.
Through the generosity of my sponsors, I raised $12785 to rebuild my childhood school in Thailand.
The school now has a new roof and we are currently working on the shower/ toilet block, however the project has come to a complete stop due to lack of funds.
My dream is to see children playing sport and be able to change back into their uniform to continue on with their learning at school.
Having experienced poverty in Thailand, I understand the way out of it is through education and that sport helps children learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a healthy way.
It also helps children develop patience, perseverance and resilience, which they can then apply the skills in other areas of their life.
My new goal is to raise $7215 needed to finish the project.
Join me to give the 100 school children the shower they can utilize after they played sports and the basic need, such as a functional toilet.
