Dave's story: In 2019 our beautiful daughter Ayla was born. Within 24 hours of arriving home, we found ourselves set on a journey to The Royal Children's Hospital where our lives were about to change forever. Within days Ayla was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease, influenza and was on life support. Hirschsprung's is a genetic disease that effects the bowel. In Ayla's case, two thirds of her large intestine didn't work and needed to be removed. After multiple surgeries, over 18 months with the care of multiple doctors, nurses, surgeons, dieticians, psychologists, she has now made a full recovery and lives normally as a happy 4-year-old thanks to this great institution.
Team FHR: The Frontline Human Resources team has joined forces to run a combined total distance of 52km at the 2023 Melbourne Marathon. For this event, we're going by the name "Frontline Human Runners". Adam and Milo have generously signed up to the 5km to help raise funds while Dave has taken on the big task of running the 42km.
"My mum recently asked me why I would do this. I said, If Ayla has the resilience to survive the operations at such a young age, I can run 42km to raise some money for the wonderful superheroes who run the hospital."
