Raising funds for: Josh Warner
A few months ago, Josh fell ill with severe headaches as a result of tearing his dura that surrounds the spinal column. He has now been diagnosed with a cerebral Spinal Fluid Leak, which has given him debilitating symptoms with several stays in hospital. This has meant that he has missed a term of Grade 11 and likely the next term as well. Josh requires a specialised myelogram followed by surgery to seal the leak, which is now the only option to see Josh get back to leading a normal life. The surgery Josh requires is only available in Sydney in the private sector and is estimated to exceed AUD30000. We are reaching out on behalf of Josh, Susie and Emma to anyone who can assist in raising this amount to help the family, who have been through much trauma in the past few years. Please know that any gift will be greatly appreciated and please keep Susie, Josh and Emma in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
Update
26 Oct 2023
Hey everyone, It’s been a long week! We actually weren’t sure until 8am this morning whether surgery was going to happen again as Josh got an impressive infection in his last incision. Lots of antibiotics and twice daily bandage changes and the surgeon looked this morning and said while he wasn’t overly keen to go while still infected he realised the risks of not doing it are also there. He will do everything he can to negate any further infection. So we are back on for surgery tomorrow and doing it all again. He is going to use an adhesive patch over the tear this time and we can only hope and pray it holds. We are running out of options otherwise! Karola’s beautiful daughter Emmeline kindly transferred us from Macquarie to Randwick this morning and we have settled into an unit across the road from Prince of Wales so we will be here for at least another 8 nights. So please send all prayers and positive thoughts out for a successful surgery tomorrow! Nerves are running high again! Thanks everyone as well for the ongoing donations, (so so grateful, especially having to stay and do it again) and the messages, love and support. Hopefully this is it!

From Susie: Update post surgery.. Thank you so much for all the messages and well wishes for Josh he is so grateful as am I. ? The really good news is the surgeon found the leak and was able to use muscle and glue to repair the tear. He said it was quite significant which is why his symptoms have been ongoing even after blood patches. We can watch the video tomorrow of the surgery! Crazy that they didn’t find it in Brisbane. So we will be forever grateful that we found out about Dr Parker at the RPA and Dr Stoodley! The downside to the news is he has a very thin dura so he isn’t able to guarantee that it will hold. He will have to be extremely careful with normal every day life ongoing. Hard for a 17 year old! He said even a sneeze could be bad! Yikes! The thin dura could be as a result of being born at 32 weeks or part of a genetic abnormality. Bit of bad luck really! Today has been a rough start. He is experiencing high pressure rebound headaches and is vomiting heaps. He is being pumped full of drugs so hoping it all settles soon. It’s too early to tell if he is having any relief from pre-surgery symptoms as the other symptoms are pretty full on. A physiotherapist came by to see if he could sit up and get up and I think the look said it all! She will come back later! He can move his arms and legs though so no damage has happened from surgery. Phew! So please keep the prayers going over the next few days as we hopefully see some benefits from the surgery. I’ll keep updating:) Thanks again everyone ?
