Thanks for visiting my fundraising page, Let's Move with Hannah. I have the pleasure of being a close family friend and Godmother to Hannah. Hannah is a delightful, intelligent, sociable little girl who has had a tough start to life but continues to face all of her challenges head on.
This September, I have decided to move with Hannah! I will be walking 10 000 steps each day for the entire
month of September and Hannah's family have set a goal for her to walk 5km over the month of September, in her walker!
I would love for you to register, set your own steps or distance goal and join me in moving with Hannah this September! So, whether you choose to walk, run or cycle, lets enjoy the sunshine and put our movement/raised funds towards a wonderful cause!
As many of you would be aware, at only 4 days old, Hannah experienced severe DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis). Hannah was in a critical condition as a result and was transferred to the Neonatal ICU at Perth Children's Hospital, where she was soon diagnosed with a very rare condition known as Neonatal Diabetes. Unfortunately, as a result of her DKA being so extreme, Hannah had a cerebral infarction at 7 days and later was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy with asymmetrical spastic diplegia.
Hannah faces many daily movement and communication challenges. She becomes extremely frustrated as her cognitive ability is outstanding but she has difficulties expressing her needs, desires, and pushing through her physical challenges to meet her goals. With the support of Hannah's family, Community Therapists, Intensive therapy blocks and her PCH team, Hannah has been working very hard to learn how to move and communicate in the best way she can and she has made many gains including learning how to use key word sign language, sit unsupported on a low step, stand holding onto furniture for 40sec, propel her walker and she is beginning to be able to steer her walker around corners. Hannah recently had her first Botox under GA to help ease the tone through her muscles and is currently going through an Intensive block of Phyiso and Occupational Therapy to build her strength, learn how to cruise along furniture and learn to use her, 'helping hand' to stabilise objects. Hannah's family will continue to support her through the many challenges to reach her goals and endeavour to give Hannah the best possible future.
Hannah does have the support of NDIS, however this only covers a portion of the hours that Hannah's therapist believes she requires for her regular therapy and intensive blocks. The funds raised will help go towards Hannah's physio, OT and speech sessions plus Intensive blocks to continue supporting Hannah to reach her mobility and communication goals.
An example of Hannah completing one intensive therapy block that has not been funded is $4, 975.00.
Hannah's family would love to support Hannah in extra evidence based programs that will help ease her muscle tone and build the core strength she requires for mobility. These activities include Hydrotherapy and Hippotherapy.
Any funds raised by your movement this September or donations from you will be of incredible assistance for Hannah. Please join with me in sending Hannah endless positivity for the years ahead. She really is such a deserving, little girl.
