We want to ensure that our Bursary fund can always help Families in need whether due to fire, flood, drought and all the unexpected. A new Boarding House for Senior boys was named in honour of the Chairman of The Scots College Council, John Kirkland, who was Chairman of the Council from 1906 to 1907 and then again from 1922 until 1927. From 1918 until the opening of Kirland House, dormitories had been established in ‘Kewpieville’, which was an old wooden house within the school grounds. However, with the establishment of Kirkland House, ‘Kewpie’ was demolished in 1926. Completed in 1926 the new building was designed to be a model house in every respect comprising six dormitories, each designed to house ten boys and quarters for a Resident Master. A feature of the house was its northerly aspect which commands views from Bondi to Manly and over the northern shore of the harbour. Initially, a fine fully-equipped hospital was planned as part of Kirkland House. The sub-floor of the north wing was converted to a basement and the south wing ground floor partitioned into single bed rooms. Built in the neo-classical revival style by Architects Morrow, Deputron and Gordon at a cost of 12,500 pounds, the architectural design of the building was taken from the original design of the nearby Middle School Building.
