For the past 12 years, on World Bellydance Day (the second Saturday in May), teams of belly dancers around the world dance a Shimmy Mob, a belly dance flash mob held annually to raise awareness of domestic abuse and raise funds for our local centre.
For the past 10 years Maitland has had a team of dancers participating in this fun event, held for a good cause.
Carrie’s Place provides a range of culturally appropriate programs for people experiencing domestic and family violence, and/or homelessness. We employ highly qualified workers with specialist skills who provide case management and court advocacy, to assist people to move forward with their lives.

What a wonderful fundraiser. The initiative looks like lots of fun. It takes a community to support those impacted by domestic violence and homelessness. So proud of the support you are giving to those in need. My Mother and I were victims of family domestic abuse. We are forever grateful to the support groups that assisted us when we left our home with only the clothes on our backs.
