This is the story of Tracy, her backpack, The Camino de Santiago & vanquishing breast cancer.
Tracy's backpack has now arrived in Australia and will be travelling with me, Nicky, as I walk The Camino de Santiago in Spain, starting 15 April 2023.
I am hoping the village of Love Your Sister will embrace the sisterhood of Tracy's Camino Backpack and Tracy's story. Her story could be any one of ours.
Tracy our heroine, was a lawyer who lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. She had a family with two children. Tracy battled breast cancer for years, and had always expressed an interest in walking the Camino. In 2017 Tracy finished her chemo regime and was feeling healthy. However, just before she left for France, she got word that her cancer had returned. Tracy was determined to continue her journey but as she walked her lungs started to collect fluid, and by the time she reached Burgos in Spain, Tracy made the decision to return home, get treatment, and hopefully resume the next year.
Her health never recovered and she died shortly after her 50th birthday.
Tracy's family could not bear the thought of her pack being used to haul school supplies or for it to be discarded, so they offered it up to the Camino world so Tracy's journey could continue.
The Sisterhood of Tracy's Camino Backpack have taken on the noble challenge of continuing her journey on The Camino for her and just maybe we can help vanquish cancer along the way..... The Camino way.
