The Rainbow Shoelace Project is the brainchild of (at the time) 12-year-old Abbie Kelly who, with their friend Max, started giving out rainbow coloured beads in their a remote outback town in NSW. The aim of the project is to show support to the LGBTIQ+ community by wearing Pride coloured beads on your shoelaces.
To date, Abbie has given out over 60,000 packs of beads across Australia.
The project is both self funded and receives donations. That way, the project remains free for people, and anyone can access it!
It's Abbie's dream to take the project to World Pride and hand out beads in Sydney in February.
There has been accomodation donated but we need help to buy more beads and to help fly Abbie to Sydney. Unfortunately / we have not been able to attract a corporate sponsor - despite lots and lots of emails and letters.
If you are in a position to help - a donation would be amazing.
Don’t give up! Keep being proactive and shining rainbows from bottom up, we all start here. I love your courage to be who are at the age of 12. Thank you for sharing your story and being visible for your community.
