On the 15th January, there was an eruption from the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic island, triggering a devastating tsunami that has ravaged the small nation of Tonga. Whilst the whole country has been affected, certain Ha'apai Islands have been impacted more so then others. More notably, the islands of Mango and Fonoi have been hit the hardest, with two deaths reported as well as many injuries. Residents have been forced to relocate to nearby islands as their homes were wiped out and may even need to relocate again due to shortages of food and water.
Our campaign is targeted towards the very families that have been displaced from various Ha'apai Islands. Many have no home to go to with little to no access to food, clothing and water. We hope to provide a level of support that will restore them to some sort of a normal life as well as prepare for the rebuilding process that is required.
This will be monitored with regular updates by us at Pacific Connect - through our different business and familial relationships we have in Tonga. We are a family run freight forwarding business that have been operating in the Pacific for 20+ years. We have received many inquiries and messages about this disaster, which has prompted us to start this campaign.
Pacificonnect originated out of the lack of affordable and flexible logistic services available to sending bulk food packages to Tonga. Foketi Freight was established to offer Tongans a freight forwarding service provided by Tongans - with the unique ability to communicate in Tongan.
