Dear friends and colleagues
Café Outside the Square – Soup and Sleep to support those in need
I am braving the cold for a good cause once again.
Obviously with the economic disruption caused by COVID, and some changes by which charities receive their support, if there was ever a need to support those in need, it is now.
I became very aware of the challenges of the homeless through my friend, Tim Seymour-Smith (City of Adelaide Citizen of the year 2019), who co-founded Café Outside the Square in November 2017.
Café Outside the Square, which is Adelaide’s only community-funded charity offering food support, training and work experience programmes, is a not for profit business that Tim runs with his business partner, Mike Chalmers, with all proceeds supporting the education and work placement of people who have experienced, or are experiencing, homelessness. Neither Tim or Mike are paid or receive any financial benefit for running the café; they donate all their time for free and do their best to feed and provide free education for the homeless. During the day the café operates as a normal eatery, and by night the site is used to feed the people from the homeless shelter.
Up to 80 homeless people are fed from the café each day, and training opportunities are provided to those in need to assist them to get back on their feet.
Café Outside the Square’s role is becoming more important through changes to funding availability for other like minded charities, and thus Café Outside the Square needs my, and hopefully your, support.
To show my support for Tim and the cause, the least I can do is spend a night out in the middle of winter (which is exactly what I’m going to do), to help raise funds for this most worthy endeavor. Any support that you can give me in my quest will be very greatly appreciated – not just by me, but most importantly by the people who find themselves in need right now.
If you can help me, and most importantly the Café Outside the Square, and Tim & Mike and their team in their quest, please donate now via the link on the right.
…and if you get the chance drop in to the café, which is situated at 34 Whitmore Square, Adelaide, for a coffee and/or bite to eat – it’s good and you’re helping feed and educate the homeless.
Cheers and thank you.
Great cause Shaun. Well done.
