In 1996 Mary found out that her kidney function was not good. By the time the various doctors worked out the cause, which was an auto-immune disease, her kidneys were irreversibly damaged. In 2011, Mary went through the lengthy testing process for a future kidney transplant for Mary. Don was found to be a fairly good match to give Mary a kidney. Unfortunately by the time the doctors decided it was time to do the kidney transplant Mary’s declining kidney function had triggered vascular dementia in her brain and she was unable to receive a transplant. Mary passed away peacefully on the 27 August 2020.
