I am Miss Keron Kilip 39 years old female Meningitis Survivor from Papua New Guinea and been disgnosed with Fungal Meningitis on the 29th of August, 2019. I thank God to be alive again. Due to the COVID19 lockdown I was not able to so proper fundraising to raise enough money to go for my medical review and secondary brain check abroad.
Hence the purpose of this medical fundraising is to help me seek enough finance to travel abroad out of my country and seek second opinion and specialist medical opinion abroad and medical review overseas in one of this countries (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore or Taiwan).Every fund raised will be invested into my medical treatment as currently the following are affected (my vision, memory slowness and have constant headache/migraine).
I was hospitalized for four months at a Private Medical Hospital in PNG that costs me K79,900 (AUD$35,000) to undertake Meningitis treatment. Meningitis treatment in PNG is rare and very expensive hence many young people including infants have died of this illness. Some of them were misdiagnosed and were administered wrong drugs etc. We have no vaccines in PNG nor proper diagnosis centre hence many people have died as Doctors misdiagnosed them thinking it is Malaria, dengue fever, just fever etc.
After being hospitalized for 4 months, my memory is slowly recovery as during my hospitalization I was on comma for 2 weeks due to severe brain inflammation to my frontal forehead. My eyes main optic nerve was inflammed and burst which effected my vision. I did 3 Brain Scans ( 1 CT Brain scan and 2 MRI Scan (with and without dye) to determine the cause of inflammation and to see if the brain was affected and impacted.
There is a fundraising committee set to assist me with all medical fundraising activities. This committee will be able to manage all coatings and expenditures for this medical review abroad. I have 4 committee members. Few of the things I want to do after returning from my medical review is to set up a PNG Meningitis Foundation Ltd a charity arm that will work together with all patients diagnosed of meningitis and create a platform to appeal to PNG Government to enforce compulsory vaccination for everyone. The charity organisation will look at establishing educational awareness throughout schools, churches and communities about Meningitis and its dangers to human life.
There is more work to be done in my country regarding meningitis hence I will champion this in.my country and need support from all charity organization that support health initiatives etc.
