The Equanimity Project Australia, a ground-breaking Australian first initiative, is calling on individuals, communities, and corporations from across Australia to become an important part of the solution to reducing domestic abuse and homelessness among women.

The Equanimity Project was founded on the story of two women. One was locked in a cycle of mental and physical abuse, and the other had her freedom taken away by no reason other than misfortune.  Both trapped by pervasive and ongoing inequality. They are not alone in their stories.

We Will Build Safe Spaces

The Equanimity Project will establish a cost-effective integrated housing solution that will create safe spaces, improve welfare and purpose for women experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness.

The Project has developed an innovative training program that will develop a qualified network of Nurture Carers™ creating a fostering style support system for women escaping domestic abuse. The solution will benchmark Australia as a leading responder to Domestic Abuse and Homelessness. Not only does it protect and nurture women and their children (and pets) experiencing domestic abuse, but it enables other women who are at risk of losing their homes to become essential to the solution.

Why The Equanimity Project?

We are an organisation made up of lived and living experience individuals.  Our program is attuned to the challenges emerging in real-time for women facing these struggles. This is vital for enabling us to create a valuable and responsive solution that will truly make a difference.

Why is this so important now?

During COVID-19, every day we faced an increasing number of stories of women seeking safety from domestic abuse or at risk of homelessness. During the pandemic, almost one in 10 Australian women in a relationship have experienced domestic violence, with two-thirds saying the attacks started or became worse during this time. Now we are experiencing the Pink Recession with mature women being the highest registrants at Centrelink,.

This has laid bare the gaps in the current system creating an increased urgency for a solution that is responsive and community-led.

The Equanimity Project is about creating a long-term solution to these gaps and to do this – we need your help.

Donate today and together we can tackle domestic abuse and homelessness head-on.

Thank you.
