Ella 15, was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (brain being squeezed out of the skull into the spinal canal) and also a brain tumour both of which have their own complications and require their own brain surgeries. This is an ordinary time for both her and her family so we are raising some funds towards her recovery and for a new start in the new year.
For those of you who are more curious or medically interested here is a more detailed description of the first procedure in layman's terms.
Ella has just been diagnosed with a few issues: 1. Chiari 1 Malformation where the base of her skull never formed properly and now the base of her brain called the cerebella tonsils is falling out of the bottom of her skull putting pressure on her spinal cord and brain stem. This has now stopped all the cranial / spinal fluid from passing through. Which now has also caused a large syrinx (fluid cyst) 25cm long down her neck and spine putting her spinal cord at high risk of damage. Today they removed a piece of skull from the back of her head, removed her C1 bone from her neck and burnt away the base of her brain. So her brain has more room to move and the CSF fluid can pass through, which hopefully will in time get rid of the large cyst. She will be back in 6 weeks to remove a brain tumour located in the centre of her brain( totally unrelated)
