Thank you for joining me here! My name is Kate and I advocate for Equine Welfare in Australia through my platform Equine Rescue Australia. This includes sharing the work that our amazing Australian recuses do to save and rehabilitate horses, sharing information on horse rescues and equine welfare concerns, and being part of a wide range of online horse communities so as to monitor the current conditions for our horsie friends - whether this is within racing, or other events.

This year I am raising funds for Cindy's Promise Horse Rescue who are based in Victoria. Cindy’s Promise rescue and rehab horses at risk from all over Australia - Many of those have been mistreated, surrendered, neglected, or may have otherwise ended up being killed for meat or shipped overseas for human consumption.

These poor horses should never end up in this position - they were bred for a purpose by human's who have failed to care for them or provide an alternative lifestyle after they didn't succeed at their initial discipline. Whether that is, a Kid's Pony Club Horse, a trail ride mount, an eventer, or a racehorse... it is our duty as breeders and owners to look after the horses we raise and bring into this world.

Cindy’s Promise is: “Every horse that comes through our gates will get the best of everything and will be protected for life”.

So as part of Equine Rescue Australia's mission, and our 2020 Fundraiser voting competition - We are walking to raise funds for Cindy's Promise - Rescue & Rehab.

The challenge will be completed by Kate Martin, the founder of ERA - My aim is to walk 1 kilometre for every $10 raised and have this achieved by the 15th October 2020.

Our first target is $1,000 but we would love to raise as much as we possibly can.

As I am pregnant and expecting my first baby in August, I've given myself extra time to complete the k's... just in case we have any road bumps on the way! I'm already in the third trimester and as we know with babies, you never know what might happen.

I am tracking my walks using either a mobile walking tracker app, or a fit bit and will update the campaign regularly.

In the event that we raise a much higher amount, I will request our community to help me complete the kilometres! So please stay tuned in over the coming months :)

I love to walk and I love to fundraise, while supporting the wonderful work our Horse Rescue's do here in Australia, so I thought I'd combine the two.

It would mean a lot to me, and will assist Cindy's greatly to have you participate with us.

Along with many businesses and the extensive jobloss in Australia, our not-for-profits have been hit hard with a decrease in donations and the ability to source the resources they need due to the Covid-19 outbreak earlier this year.

This is just one way we can help them get back on their feet - We can't help everybody, but we can always help someone.

Funds donated and raised will go directly to Cindy’s (My Cause transfers each month) and the money will go towards the horses for their:

> Rescue costs
> Rehabilitation and training
> Feed
> General housing and upkeep costs
> Transport
> Vet bills
> Additional needs

ERA has been running for almost 3 years and in that time we have raised funds to rescue our own racehorse, we have help relocate and rehome a number of other racehorses in Victoria, we have spoken out about injustice in the racing industry, for our brumbies, and we have shared the stories of many successful rescues with our community from all over Australia. Our community means the world to us and we are so thankful to have you join us!
