The Gold Coast Sikh Council, together with the Gold Coast Sikh Temple in Helensvale, is actively providing 'Langar' (freshly cooked Indian vegetarian meal) to anyone in need. This service is being done in collaboration with various other charities, such as 'OzHarvest Gold Coast', for the benefit of other charities, volunteer groups and front-line workers.
As the Coronavirus impact is set to impact many more within our local community, including the many international students we have here, we expect we will need to increase our service from the current 600 meals per week upwards of 1,000 meals per week.
Thanks to community support, we have also been able to purchase a commercial freezer which will provide us with an increased distribution capacity to supply meals as and when needed.
Although this campaign has been set up for only 5 weeks, it may be necessary to extened it until the COVID-19 pandemic passes, and the lives of many are back to normality.
Your support towards this mission is greatly appreciated.
As Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Founder of the Sikh Religion said, 'We are all human before religion'.
