After navigating my latest mishap and at long last putting in a long run that has me confident I can at least make the finish line healthy/uninjured, I could not be more excited to FINALLY be tackling my first ultra marathon amid the community that is Oscars100 Hut2Hut. With the event in two weeks though, it is guaranteed that it will meet the aim of providing uncomfortable and challenging situations that provide insight into the daily challenges of children with autism. Hut2Hut is a charity event, with all funds raised going towards charities that provide support services for children with autism and their families.
This one hits close to home, because the incredible blessing that is my 6 year old nephew, Ollie, was diagnosed with autism at a young age. He has thankfully had access to personal helpers at school and other services that have allowed him to thrive as normal as anyone, but it isn't without its challenges. Seeing the world in a totally new way through Ollie's eyes as he articulates his experiences, is truly a thing of wonder once you see beyond what seems like chaos. The best part for me, is that Ollie ADORES running almost as much as I do, so we have formed a special bond over this beautiful sport. So I will be out there, running the big kms and tackling the course for Ollie, knowing it would blow his mind, so that he can see just what sort of things he too can conquer if he keeps dreaming big.
But it wouldn't be possible without support, so although its late notice, if you want to help and have any funds to spare, I know the money raised can enrich and change lives in big ways. Even if not, if you can just follow along with the event and all the incredible people doing it, or learn a little more about Autism after reading this - that's all helping too!

Well done Simone! What an inspiration!
