Maureen Stewart Memorial Capital Nordic Walking Community Outreach Program

Maureen was a much-loved, and active member of the Capital Nordic Walking Community Outreach Program, which was recognised last year by Westfield as a Local Hero. The program supports people who struggle to move easily and safely, and who are isolated because they can’t get out and about. Nordic Walking helps them to move safely, easily, and further, with a lot less pain. But it’s being connected with others through the Community Outreach Program that keeps them moving, improves their fitness and health, and makes this initiative such a success. The initiative is still in its early stages and Maureen was one of a core group of Volunteers helping to expand it across Canberra making it available to many more people. Maureen made such a difference to the lives of so many of our Nordic Walkers; she brought light, energy and happiness into whatever space or place she was in - her positive energy was infectious - and life-changing - especially for those struggling with pain and heavy-heartedness.
