The college is working with indigenous leading organisations, students, Business Chamber &; local wildlife experts, to establish immediate and the next generation of skills for land and wildlife care
Long after the fires have burnt out millions of acres it will be left bare , an ecological disaster, a species deficit; wildlife will continue starve, unique and endangered species have been handed their extinction notice and we need to fight for a stay of action.
We want this pivotal moment in Australia’s history to be part of the longer term solution; we want this program to educate all community and employ local indigenous along with other vulnerable groups and committed community members to “work on country”.
Our Indigenous community members are grossly over-represented in the unemployment , poor health &; disengaged statistics. Our fauna and flora has been ravaged and will need skilled hands and hearts to give it a chance to flourish.
On the Mid North Coast we have an amazing number of Not for profit organisations doing everything they can to rebuild our natural resources and care for decimated populations of engendered species ; Aussie Ark, The Koala Hospital, Billabong Zoo , WIRES, FAWNA .....
We support and admire the work they do
Our focus is building a new workforce that we can all learn and benefit from. An army of trainees to assist to rebuild our forests.
Our plan is to work together with community groups to provide grass roots education and training within a practical, hands-on, culturally significant workplace-based project environment.
Our goal for 2020 is to offer 20 local Indigenous community members the opportunity to learn alongside elders and experts, through a work placement program; learning on the job while assisting to rescue and re-plan.
Each Trainees education and work placement will need $82,000 of funding for 12 months .
$50,000 pa or ($25.00 per hour) per person will support a full time learning wage for each trainee with wellbeing and literacy support
$5,000 pa per person budget or transport costs to sites; it is an incredibly large and in parts almost inaccessible area
$15,000 pa per person contribution to NFP partner experts in cultural significance , flora , fauna and land management to assist with the facilitation of current , research based education
$9,000 pa per person for local college learning facilitator
It’s an ambitious project with the potential of covering over 3 million ha of land in NSW , changing the lives of 20 Indigenous community members and it needs to start right now - One indigenous trainee at a time
NOTE – we receive no government funding for this critical future-focussed educational project
Indigenous Land Management is an accredited vocational qualification in Australia yet it’s not deemed a critical skill for our future - we strongly believe this position needs to change
