Neerigen Brook Primary School embodies the motto, Strive to Achieve by encompassing a strong culture focused on high expectations, academic excellence and ensuring that all students have the skills needed to develop into active, resilient citizens with a strong sense of community spirit. The opportunity to work with and facilitate the program Good Foundation is proposing, would be incredibly beneficial to our school. Armadale, like many other areas, is a city under enormous societal pressures and challenges including domestic violence, drug use and poverty. These challenges impact on some of our families in our school community. We are fortunate to have a strong community spirit in our school including many volunteers who share their knowledge, skills and time to ensure that the needs of our students are met in a safe, non-judgemental way. Our families embrace opportunities to develop their own skill set and knowledge to lead by example and work as a family to ensure students at Neerigen Brook are afforded the best opportunities available to them. This is evident in the community involvement in our 3R garden. The school is invested in providing the infrastructure and resources to create a sustainable garden that can provide a crop of healthy nutritious fruit and vegetables for the community to share. Learning that food can be grown and that it doesn’t come packaged or in a tin has been some significant learning for our students. This learning has resulted in a space where families can discuss the food that they eat and experiment with produce from our garden, and begin to grown their own. Without the support of Good Foundation, our challenge will be to embed this learning across the community and sustain the momentum. With broader community support we have the vision and the passion to empower our community to take a step towards better health, create a sense of belonging and break down systemic barriers that have traditionally impacted on our community. We feel so honoured that our school has been selected to participate in this learning experience. And thank you for your kind donation.
