The joy of cricket in Croatia - you can make it happen

When it comes to sport, Croatia is famous for tennis, soccer and water polo. But did you know we play cricket here too? And with your help, we can take our players off the farm and into more cities with a Flicx Pitch.

We’re appealing to cricket lovers everywhere to spread the joy of cricket - and make Croatia a cricket-friendly place.

The capital of Croatia is Zagreb, a small metropolitan city of a million people. As you can imagine, there aren’t many cricket pitches around.

In spite of that, a dedicated gang of enthusiasts meet up on weekends to play on a converted bit of farm land. It’s not ideal. It’s far from the city, it’s pretty uneven, and you never know when you’re going to stick your foot in a mouse hole or trip over a mole hill. Let me tell you, that’ll knock you for six.

We potentially have an opportunity to use the Zagreb Field Hockey Club’s extra ground instead. It’s a beautiful flat ground with no vermin destroying it. It’s in a convenient location and it will mean we can attract even more people to come along and play.

But we need a portable pitch! A FLICX PITCH ! plus a practice net, and maybe some boundary flags...

Why are we asking cricket lovers to help us? Well, we hope that you like the idea of spreading the joy of cricket all over the world!

Despite its rich heritage and nature, Croatia is not a rich country. There’s no funding available for something like this. We’ve been keeping the club going off of our own bats, with nothing but sheer love, willpower and the wallet power of a few individuals for quite a few years. It’s time to try and ease the burden a little. A lot of us are expats from Commonwealth and other cricketing nations - but we’ve also been able to attract a bunch of locals.

A portable Flicx pitch will allow us to get even more players joining in. We’ll be able to visit schools and other regions - we can’t wait to bowl Croatians over with our fun demonstrations. And with the purchase of a practice net we will finally be able to get enough practice to be able to field a truly competitive team at Croatian and International competitions.

So we’re appealing to the global cricket community to pitch in and get us a pitch.

We hope that if you’re ever in Croatia, you’ll come join us for a couple of overs - and a cold beer or two as well.
