Three years ago a six friends decided to walk from Safety Beach to Sorrento to raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). This was a charity close to their heart with one of the 6 friends had been diagnosed 3 years prior with the disease.
That number tripled from 6 to 18 the year after and in 2018 there were over 60 women walking the coastline of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. They have been amazing days of fun and laughter. Mums, daughters, sisters, work colleagues and friends walked and talked together. The age ranged from 12 to over 70. Most made it to the end and those who didn’t did as much as they could!!
It is suprising how us ladies don’t notice the distance with talking and the odd food and coffee break! Maybe making the pub the final destination helped too! The walk in its three years has raised over $26,000, with last years effort alone raising nearly $15,000. This money is donated to much needed research into finding an early detection test and improved treatment for those women with the disease. Many women are walking to support loved ones lost and friends an family members living with the disease.
This community of Wonder Women are making a big difference.
