Teal wings of hope

Hi, my name is Amie and I am apart of the Miss International Australia pageant 2019. As apart of this pageant and journey I am given the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer through Teal Wings of Hope.

Teal Wings of Hope is an organisation that works to expand public awareness of the early symptoms of ovarian cancer in an effort to contribute to the early detection of this deadly disease, and by doing so, save lives. It could be you, your mother, your sister, your wife or your daughter. Every woman is at risk and it is important that all women are educated about ovarian cancer and the importance of knowing their family medical history.

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecological cancer deaths in Australia. Each year more than 1200 Australian women are diagnosed with 800 women will die. On average 3 Australian women are diagnosed every day. Approximately 75% of women are diagnosed at an advanced stage, where the cancer has spread and is difficult to treat successfully. Currently only 40% of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will be alive five years after diagnosis.
If ovarian cancer is diagnosed early, up to 80% of women will be alive and well after five years.
