About
I’m embarking on the Kokoda Trail with mate and former Wallaby Rob Horne in July to raise money and awareness for The Cauliflower Club’s spinal injury fund. This charity provides sporting and recreational equipment to enhance the lives of those with a disability, particularly those with sport related injuries.
A little over 12 months ago, Rob injured his right arm during a tackle playing for the Northampton Saints against the Leicester Tigers over in the UK. Rob damaged his brachial plexus (network of nerves that conduct signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm and hand) so badly that all five nerves separated from his spinal cord, rendering him with full limb paralysis and chronic pain in his right arm. Since returning back to Australia, Rob has joined The Cauliflower Club to increase awareness and improve the quality of life for others living with sport related injuries.
The group will be travelling to Papua New Guinea to complete the Kokoda Trail with Rob. It will be a challenge of mental and physical endurance, providing us with an opportunity to reflect on the strength and determination of our soldiers and those with sports related injuries.
A total of $4,500 is required to be paid by each member to participate in the Kokoda Challenge, which is operated by South Sea Horizons - a PNG operating business who specialise in Kokoda Trail Expeditions. The Cauliflower Club and South Sea Horizons have an agreement in place where $1,500 (from the $4,500 paid by each participant), is to be donated to The Cauliflower Club directly by South Sea Horizons.
All additional funds raised will be donated to the Cauliflower Club and allocated for other costs attributed to the Kokoda Trail (incl insurance and medical supplies).
Fantastic initiative. Good luck Toby and team!
