Hi, My name is Shanaye, I’m 14 and a goalkeeper from Perth WA. Here’s my story I started playing hockey at the age of 10, I put the goalie pads on and quickly realised that this was the position for me. In 2017 at the age of 12 I was moved up to play with the girls aged 14 & 15 and a coach for the women’s team approached my mum and asked if I would be allowed to play in their team. I was so excited but extremely nervous. With the support from my Mum I joined the team. This meant 2 games on the weekends and 2 training sessions during the week. My Mum is a single parent and with no complaints she made sure I made it to every training and game even if it meant driving across the countryside all weekend. Within the first year of playing for the women I quickly realised that I wanted to take this further, “I want to get to the Olympics and represent Australia one day” I said to my Mum. Of course with no hesitation she took it on board and got me the best Coach which meant early 5am trainings come rain, hail or shine. In my second year of playing for the women aged 13 I couldn’t believe it – Me! the goalkeeper won Fairest and Best for the season. In 2018 aged 13 I decided that I wanted to try out for the U15 State WA team. It was months of selections and trainings. In January my mum started to suffer severe neck pain. Unfortunately she was diagnosed that she had to have a level in her neck fused. The news came just over a week ago “I couldn’t believe it, I had made the U15 team to represent WA in April at the state championships in NSW”. Unfortunately my mum is now off work without pay and we need to pay for my flights, accommodation, transport and my uniform! All up it’s going to cost $3600. It would be amazing if you could help me achieve my dreams by donating any amount even $1 helps. Thank you for your donation please help by sharing this page.
