Sheena is a warrior who is about to embark on the biggest battle of her life and to help make things a little bit easier for her, I have set up a fundraiser towards some of the costs she is facing as she fights breast cancer.
I will be competing at a Powerlifing Competition at Athletes Authority on Saturday March 30th and if you would like to sponsor me as I attempt to crack 400 Wilks, I would be very grateful. Every bit of support, no matter how small is much appreciated!
Although we are lucky to live in a country with some of the best medical care in the world, unfortunately the treatment for breast cancer in Australia is not free and unless you have private health cover, the medical bills mount up very quickly. Some things are partially covered through Medicare but diagnostic tests such as MRI’s are not covered at all.
Sheena is a professional dancer who has recently opened up her own dance studio and will be unable to perform or teach as she undergoes chemotherapy and surgery over the next few months. Being self employed means Sheena does not get any superannuation, sick leave, holiday pay or entitlements and she is also dealing with being the main carer for her partner who will be undergoing surgery himself next week.
*For those not familiar with powerlifting, the Wilks coefficient is used by Powerlifting Australia to measure the strength of a powerlifter against other powerlifters despite the different weights of the lifters. I will be aiming for a 350kg total at 58kg body weight to reach 400 Wilks*
