"Every woman has the right to a clean and safe childbirth"
An estimated 385,000 women die annually in childbirth, many from preventable infection. Birthing kits contain the essential items that reduce the chance of newborn babies contracting deadly diseases such as HIV and tetanus.
Each kit contains; a sheet of plastic, soap, gloves, string, gauze and a sterile scalpel blade all in a small press seal plastic bag. With an individual cost of only $3 you have the potential to save lives for less than what you would pay for your morning coffee.
The ACU Melbourne Midwifery Society prides itself on improving birthing conditions and empowering women globally. Since our inaugural birthing kit assembly night in 2015 we have fundraised and assembled a total of 5000 birthing kits that have been distributed to vulnerable women in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.
After great success, our annual birthing kit assembly night is going ahead again for 2019. So please join us in saving lives and reaching our goal of another 1000 birthing kits by sharing this page, donating or coming along to the assembly night in early August. Every dollar counts!
With love and gratitude
