In 1619, a falsely imprisoned Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji (the 6th Sikh Guru) was granted release. However Guru Ji accept the release on the basis that the other 52 falsely imprisoned Hindu Raja's also be freed.
Emporer Jahangir accepted to release all Hindu Raja's that could hold onto the cloak of the Sikh Guru Ji. Accordingly, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had a cloak made with 52 cloth tails for each Raja to hold on to and be set free... which was successful.
As Sikhs celerate this auspicious occasion - the freedom of humanity (regardless of religion), Hindu's celebrate the festival of light known as 'Diwali'. Both are celebrated similarly with lighting up homes and Gurdwara's, praying, giving of gifts, communal meals and spending time with loved one.
For each of the 52 Hindu Raja's that were released, we simply hope to raise $100 each to put towards the Gold Coast Gurdwara Project currently under construction in Helensvale... a place which will light up the life of all community members every day of the week.
If we can exceed this target by achieving $1,000 per Raja, that would be a great way to celebrate this auspicious day.
