It’s time to have our issues championed by somebody who cares and is independent from political party constraints.
I have been a resident of Bass since 1981. First as a holiday house owner and now as a semi retiree on Phillip Island.
I have seen Pakenham grow from nothing to be part of the fastest growing corridor in Melbourne. I have seen the waterline townships and Phillip Island become the fastest growing “seachange” centres in Victoria. I have also heard successive governments of both colours promise and not deliver for this electorate. We need an independent voice to promote the issues that effect our region. It is a broad electorate with the differing needs from the urban West Pakenham, or the market gardens of Koo Wee Rup, to the coastal destinations from Grantville to Inverloch. I am also very aware of the special needs of Phillip Island. Not only is it Victoria’s premier tourist and holiday destination but it is a place where over 11,000 people from young families to retirees live permanently.

• Erosion of the coastline: A serious problem for all the waterline townships and Phillip Island
• Domestic violence: Unfortunately highlighted by the death of Samantha Fraser on Phillip Island and an ongoing concern for the entire electorate and the State.
• A municipal review to make Phillip Island its own shire again. As the jewel in the crown of Victoria, it has special needs that can only be met by being its own Shire.
• Affordable housing and living expenses:
• Youth issues: recreational and sporting facilities, drug rehab facilities and mental health counselling, Pill testing at music festivals on the island
• A years 9-12 technical high school for San Remo/Phillip Island. Give our children the skills they need to find jobs in our electorate after leaving school.
• After hours medical availability on the Island bridging the gap from 10pm to 8am. To give the community and tourists the reassurance of medical assistance if required.
• Put the ferry on the jetty. Locate the Stony Point to Cowes ferry terminal on the Cowes jetty and not to the Osborne Avenue beach.

I am not committed to either the left or the right –I am looking forward in the interests of our Island and the electorate.
I have talked to many people about their frustrations in our politicians so I have decided to “put my money where my mouth is” and stand for Bass as an independent voice.
