In perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the year, I have signed up for Ocsober. This means that I will be going sober this October and raising money for a cause very close to my heart, KYDS Youth Development Service. www.kyds.org.au
It’s going to be a big challenge for me, but I’m looking forward to the many benefits this will bring and setting a good example for my children and other young Aussie kids.
Alcoholism is a family disease because it affects the family as a whole and each member individually. Living with alcohol abuse means being in an unsafe environment filled with disruptions to normal routines, the tension of strained relationships, and dishonesty.
The disease of alcoholism affects every family members life, attitude, and way of thinking perhaps more dramatically than it does for the drinker.
I want to lead by example to the young people in my life about the long term effects of drinking. I appreciate any support you can give.
KYDS provides free, confidential counselling and mental health support services for young people up to the age of 19 across Northern Sydney. Each year we deliver around 6000 sessions without the need for a Medicare card, GP referral or mental health plan, which are often barriers to seeking support.
