A loving mother of 2 Alan & Bianca and a doting Nanny to little Max. Karen is our beloved Mother, Nanny, Aunty, Sister & Friend, facing the fight of her life. Battling stage 4 Melanoma that has metastasised to the Brain and Lung. Karen has spent the majority of her life giving to others having worked as a Personal Carer for over 10 years. She is known for the generous amounts of love and care that she gives to her residents, coworkers, friends and most importantly her family On 28th July 2018, Karen's world was turned upside down, when she was admitted to the local hospital with an unknown illness, that night she was transferred to Melbourne to undergo further tests. July 29th and we received the news that Karen had 3 tumours on her brain and one on her chest. 2 days later and Karen had surgery to remove one of the tumours from her brain. The following week Karen spent 2 days at the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre working with the doctors for a treatment plan. She had 3 days of targeted Radiation which had a 80% chance the treatment would help reduce the tumour and cancer particles. After this 3 day treatment Karen was due to have a few weeks break before commencing up treatment on her chest. Doctors have stated that Karen's case is rare as they have not been able to find where the primary cancer source is and with having no symptoms prior. On 28th August Karen attended Melbourne for a routine MRI to assess progress of the radiation she had previously, on her way home she received a phone call from her doctors advising her to turn around and head back to the hospital as her scans revealed she had fluid around her heart and lungs, upon arrival at the hospital she was seen by a cardiologist and then transferred back to Melbourne the next day where she had surgery again to drain the fluid away from her heart. Her 2nd surgery went well and the doctors drained 750ml of fluid from around her heat, where usually there is only 10-20ml of fluid. Karen spent the night sedated to get some much needed rest. We are unsure of the fight ahead, but wanting to do what we can to help and support Karen and her family through this hard time. I have pledged to Karen that once we reach a target (yet to be confirmed) I will shave my head and donate my hair to kids with cancer, and all funds raised will go to Karen for her medical and living expenses while she is unable to work. Please get behind us to help ease some of the financial pressure the family is facing. Thanks for reading, Amy

Well.... the day of our Raffle draw and Shave arrived!!! To say I woke up nervous and a little apprehensive would be an understatement. But I had promised this to Karen and I stand by my choice! We got the day started around 11am with getting everything organised for the raffle and Shave, Hannah arrived around midday to get things underway. We went live on Facebook for others to be able to watch my hair go. Karen stood up to the challenge, and started off the shave. Once the shave was underway Bianca took the lead in beginning to draw our winners for our 34 prizes, donated by local businesses, we can't thank all those businesses enough and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you! And to everyone who purchased tickets, I wish you all could have won something! I will be in touch with our winners in the coming day or 2 and organise getting your prizes to you! Originally Karen had stated I couldn't chop my hair until I hit the 20 thousand goal. Whilst we didn't have that today we are super super close with just $906 from getting our goal. We still have 2 weeks until this page closes so please get the word out and try help us reach our goal. My hair will now be going to Hair with Heart from the Variety foundation to make wigs for sick children to help them along their journey. Once again thank you to everyone who has donated and helped out. You will never know how much Karen appreciates it. Amy xx

We finished up just after 2:30PM this afternoon and raised an outstanding total of $3185.80 for the day. Topping our last sausage sizzle total. We thank everyone who came along to show their support. We now have Melanoma Awareness Ribbons!! Printed with the melanoma awareness butterfly for that little bit of extra flare! We have limited numbers so get in quick if you are after one, it is very hard to find awareness Ribbons for Melanoma, and by getting a ribbon today will be all set for Melanoma Awareness month next May. The statistics for Melanoma are 1 in 14 men and 1 in 24 women each year in Australia will get diagnosed with melanoma, if found early has very good success rates but unfortunately we don't do enough to check our skin and ensure we do everything we can to prevent it. So please everyone go and get checked and encourage those you love around you to also get checked. We also have just under 5 weeks until our raffle is drawn so be sure to get yourself a ticket today to make sure you don't miss out on some incredible prizes donated by so many amazing and supportive businesses in town. Both the raffle tickets and awareness Ribbons are available at Debs Diner and The Edge Barber & salon, for $5 each. Or alternatively get in touch with Bianca or myself and we can help out. Thanks everyone for your support so far Amy xxx

Today 8th September we held a tin raffle at the Wimmera Football League finals held in Ararat, after club president David Jennings got us permission to be there. Helen, Debbie, Ruby, Charlie, Alison, Sierra, Amy & Luca got to the oval at 8.30am to start our campaign to try and raise a bit more towards our cause. We started off a bit slow, but at the end of the day we contributed $656.40. We can't thank the Ararat Football Club enough for gaining us permission to be there today, and for those who donated and helped out, it was very much appreciated. We have now ticked over $3221 for the cause. Our next event is a sausage sizzle booked for Saturday 15th September at Woolworths, we will be selling cakes and slices along with the BBQ and soft drink, please if you are out and about come down to Woolies and say hello, buy a sausage or even just donate into the tin. Again thankyou to everyone for their support over the last 9 days in donating to our cause. Regards Amy
