The Highway of Hope Educational Centre was founded by Pastor Peavon and his wife 4 years ago in Kisii, Kenya. The centre currently directly benefits 50 children aged between 6 and 16 who have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Pastor Peavon and his wife Doricah, who have four chidren of their own, have been using their own resource and help from friends to provide for the children.
I have come to know Pastor Peavon through many conversations and learned of his passion to provide the chance of a better life for these children, who are often rescued from the streets, where some of young girls have been forced into prostitution just to survive.
The orphanage often struggles to put food on the table and there are days when the children make do with a cup of hot water for breakfast.
Despite the difficulties, the home has changed the life of many children, physically, emotionally and spiritually. The Highway of Hope offers the best opportunity for these orphaned children, providing food, medicine, and education, but relies heavily on the kindness of friends and the community for donations in order to continue their good work.
My goal is to raise enough funds to enable Peavon and Doricah to repair an existing outbuilding on their property so that they can raise chickens. This will provide them with both nutritious eggs for the children to eat and some income for the orphanage by selling eggs to the community, which can in turn be used for food, clothes and supplies.
Repairs to the building will require a new roof, doors and floor to make it suitable for use, along with equipment such as feeders, water containers and perches for the chickens.
Finally, 100 chickens will be purchased to provide the start of what will become an ongoing project to provide continued support for the Highway of Hope Educational Centre.
I hope you will consider giving generously to this cause. A donation of just $10 will buy one chicken! Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.
