Hi, I'm Chloe, a single mother with 2 little kids. I'm trying to raise funds to 1) cover $6170 worth of fees for surgery and 2) pay for a carer for my children while I recover.
I'm currently in a dire financial situation: I have no assets - Eg no car or property - and, as of recently no savings due to paying hospital fees, $6170, for much needed surgery. I now have no money to pay for a carer to look after my kids for the time I need to recover from surgery.
The $9000 I'm hoping to raise won't completely cover these costs but it will ensure that myself and my kids are not pushed further under the poverty line.
Thankyou for taking a minute to read about my situation. Even the smallest donation will make a huge difference. If donating is not your thing, please share my campaign on your Facebook page as it will still help.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What about free surgery in a public hospital? The waiting list for hernia surgery in the public health system is one year. It was an unrealistic option to wait one year as I was already unable to provide basic care for my kids eg pick them up, bath them, take them out.
2. What about private health insurance? I don't have private health insurance because I can't afford it. I am on the Single Parent Pension. It does not provide enough money to afford the cost of private health insurance.
3. What about the costs of the surgeon and anaesthetist? Due to my bad financial situation, both my surgeon, Dr Shevy Perera (cost = $1964.80) and my anaesthetist, Dr Paul Bertolino (cost = $500) generously chose to bill Medicare instead of me If they had not chosen to do this, I would not have been able to afford to go ahead with the surgery. The hospital however still charged me $6170.
4. Can't the government provide free childcare or carers? Centrelink do not provide loans of the amount that I need. A social worker from NSW Health explained that the only option they could provide was to put my children in short term foster care. Those of you from Australia know how broken the Australian foster care system is. There's no way I'd put my kids in the care of strangers and run the risk of my kids being harmed.
5. What about financial support from family members? If my family were able to cover the above costs, I wouldn't be trying to raise the funds through Mycause.com.au.

I applaud your strength to ask for help Chloe. As a fellow single mum, I know how hard it is to do. To any friend of mine or Chloe's, please dig deep and help if you can. No donation is too small.
Hope things are looking up soon Chloe!
