When I decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or” Kili” as most people refer to it, it was a crazy and wild goal and one that is truly outside of my comfort zone.
Climbing Kili which sits at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa and one of the world’s seven summits is one massive feat! So embarking on this challenge I knew I should do it for a good cause.
Mental health is a sensitive subject for a lot of people but it doesn’t have to be. Depression and anxiety affect millions of Australians every day, yet, despite this, the stigma attached to this invisible disease is very real where people may not have the courage to speak up and seek help.
Through my own experience I know how hard and tiring it can be to put on a smiling face during the times I have struggled with anxiety and depression. I consider myself lucky as I have had a great support network to help me through whereas others may not be so fortunate.
I have been putting in the hard yards with training for this adventure (even in an altitude chamber!) to be ready for the 7-day climb which starts on the 17th September 2018.
Through your donations you will not only provide me with moral support to climb the summit, but you will be contributing to the research, provision of support services and help with breaking down the stigma for individuals struggling with depression and anxiety.
My initial goal is to raise $2,500 but am hoping to be flooded with generosity to surpass that amount! So share with everyone you know as every little bit counts.
Much love and thanks for your support.
