My sister Susan died of breast cancer in March 2017, leaving behind her husband Colin and her 12 year old son Gabe. I wonder what life might have been like for Colin and Gabe, Susan’s family, and her many friends, if there had been an effective treatment for her illness and she was still alive today.
I would like to do what I can to provide hope for other women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their loved ones.
I am planning to swim across Darwin Harbour - breaststroke - to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This is a 6km swim in a straight line, but will be more than that after taking into account tidal movements. As far as I know, no one has ever swum across Darwin Harbour, and I doubt very much anyone has done so using breaststroke! If I feel I am ready, and the conditions are right on the day, I will do the swim on Sunday 24 June 2018, Susan's birthday.
Wish me luck and thank you for considering donating.
