I met Chloe’s parents, Nyree and Grant, in a pub in London 20 or so years ago, when a bunch of friends and family, and friends of friends of family collided. And weren’t we all so lucky for it! We became a crew, a team, a new version of family. Far away from home, but it didn’t often feel that way. This crew was always looking out for each other; always ensuring no one missed out on any of the fun.
I remember during those days we would hear of sad news and devastating events that took place in different parts of the globe, and the phrase “that won’t happen to us” might have been spoken, then relatively quickly forgotten as we headed out for our next catch-up, holiday planning, work, or whatever we filled our effortless daily regimes with at the time.
Well guess what? Bad things have happened. And this once carefree tribe of mates has been rocked to its core. None of us truly understand what life is like for Ny and Grant day in, day out. Some days I feel guilty about that. Some days our kids want to talk about Chloe more than others. Some days they want to donate the relatively small amounts of money they have to help find a cure. “Have we raised enough to save Chloe yet?”, they ask. Some days it seems that the target is impossible to reach. And some days you realise there is actually so much more that can be done. And today I realised I can help with that.
I’m not sure that I can get 100kms under my belt, but I can do something. And I hope that my 9 year old daughter can join me for some of it too.
Our aim is to raise awareness of Vanishing White Matter Disease, and raise funds to help find a cure for Chloe and others around the world who are suffering from it. Our aim is to support our mates.
Your encouragement and donation will make a difference.
