I have always had a desire to cycle from the west coast of Australia to the east coast and a few years ago I cycled from Canberra to Sydney and back to test my ability. Last year I cycled from Perth to Ceduna South Australia. This April 2018, I plan to cycle from Ceduna to Canberra in order to complete my goal. This distance will be roughly 2,000kms. This time I plan to combine my love of long distance bike riding with raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation. $25 can restore sight. Restoration of sight will have an unbelievable impact on someone’s life. A child can go to school, a parent can earn a living, a mother can see her children. Your donation WILL change lives. A big thank you to my corporate sponsors - Shaw Constructions, WSP Consultants and Little Pickle Cafe (best coffee at ANU).

I MADE IT! I arrived back in Canberra Sunday afternoon 29 April 2018 after completing the final leg of the journey from Yass. I started the journey from Ceduna South Australia on Friday 6 April and I have ridden every day for 24 days. Some statistics: Total distance covered 2,308 km. Average daily - 96kms Weight loss over the journey 5kg. Ask me how! It's been an incredible journey and I have met some wonderful people on the way. The longest ride in one day was 160km which included the hilly ride out from Gundagai. 14 hours in the saddle was not a good day but I have recovered. Thank you to all my donors and sponsors. The Fred Hollows Foundation states that $25 will restore sight so a lot of people around the world will benefit from your contribution. A parent can support a family, a child can go to school, a mother can see her children. How good is that? So please spread the word. I will do a final message in a few days time summarizing the trip and I hope to take a few photos with my corporate sponsors. Best wishes Jim Pollard.

Today is Thursday April 26 and I've got as far as Narrandera with 1,951 kms recorded on the odometer. Today the distance was 126km. It's a lot of kms but the weather is good, the road is flat and there is a slight tail wind. Tomorrow the target is Wagga Wagga. After that I'm not sure what the best route will be back to Canberra. Yesterday was Anzac Day and I attended the Dawn Service at Hay. It's good to see a large group paying respect to those whose lives were lost such that we can enjoy the freedom that we have today. As I was leaving Hay, I asked a lady for directions and see wanted to know what I was doing. When I told her about the Fred Hollows fund raising she stopped me in my tracks. She has just had a cataract operation. Previously she was legally blind! She dragged me into the RSL club and bought me lunch and introduced me to her large family. How good is that?

Jim, What I can say is that your cycling trip has resulted in a massive demand for the ANU's Timely Treadlie bike scheme. The F&S senior management team and the University Executive want to emulate what you are doing and have commandeered all Timely Treadlies and you can't get one for love nor money at lunch time. No more are they tripping to the lunch room to get their fix of chocolates and Coke. No, it's three trips around Fellows Oval and then a sprint along Sullivans Creek Road. The VC is also looking for someone to steer a project on how a Tesla battery can be attached to a Timely Treadlie so you can look into that when you get back. As of Friday 20 April I understand that you are heading into Renmark so best wishes for the rest of the journey.

Thanks to all my donors and corporate sponsors. I left Ceduna Friday 6 April. Today Wednesday 11 April arrived Port Lincoln. Weather has been quite hot but I'm in good spirits. Drinking 6 litres of water a day plus the occasional beer. Tomorrow start the long run up Spencer Gulf to Port Augusta. Had a unique experience yesterday where I gave a lecture about the joys of long distance cycling to 30, Year 10 girls staying at a Scout camp. They were impressed with my story when I mentioned about the Fred Hollows Foundation. Hopefully I will get a few donations. Best wishes to all.

Jim, Pity there is no water around as I'm convinced you could walk on it. Let me know when the training run starts for the Vladivostok to Moscow trip as I probably will be on leave at that time.
