Type 1 Diabetes and suicide are highly stigmatised subjects. We are completing a 7,300 stair challenge to bring to light the struggle of Type 1 and Mental Illness.
Mental Illness: The Hidden Complication of Type 1 Diabetes
Just as I was about to plunge into oblivion, someone knocked on the door. It stopped both the monster, and room in their tracks. The person told the monster that it was ok to come out. I will not judge you. I will see you for what you are. I will guide you. Can I talk to you? Come out, I promise it’s ok.
I feel passionate about linking mental health and Type 1. I don’t want anyone else to be hidden anymore. I am willing to dedicate myself to fight for both of these causes.
I have been lucky to be supported by Sian at Pritchard Health. She was the first person in 14 years who finally ‘got it’! She understood that our brains and bodies don’t work separately. Without the support from Sian and her colleagues, I wouldn’t be here. I now have the opportunity and curiosity to consider what may be. A future I did not believe in and was so afraid of.
Our core purpose is to support, connect and advocate for children, adults and their families. We are a volunteer run not-for-profit charity. We aim to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes through education in schools, medical practices and the wider community.
