Thanks for visiting our QV1 Descent fundraising page! Eva, Aimee and her former teen Courtney are abseiling down QV1 - Perth's fourth tallest building at 40 stories high and WA's highest single pitch abseil, on Thursday 19th April. Together, we're raising much-needed funds for Leading Youth Forward's one-on-one mentoring program.
We're aiming to raise at least $2,500 to go towards funding our small group activities for mentors and teens in 2018. Small group activities are made possible by $100 grants that allow mentors and their teens to participate in tailored activities outside of structured LYF events. These can include workshops, careers events, talks and more.
"The small group activity grant allows mentors to cater specifically to their teen's needs outside of the formal LYF program. In 2015, my then teen Taneisha and I attended the TEDx Perth conference hearing from numerous inspiring speakers. This was an opportunity that would otherwise not be afforded Taneisha due to her family's financial situation. Every year, our survey results show these are often the most valuable and enjoyable events for teens." – Eva, LYF President
"Hello, I’m Courtney Ferguson and I turn 17 years old on the 19th April. I started the LYF program in March 2014 and graduated at the end of 2016. Aimee Dawson was my mentor throughout the entire program. The best part about LYF was meeting new people and spending time with Aimee to build my confidence and people skills. I’m currently finishing my Cert 2 in Adult Education and would like to pursue a career in photography. I’m very grateful that LYF has given me the motivation to follow this path." – Courtney, Former LYF Teen
"Small group activities are an excellent opportunity to bond with your teen away from the large group. When I mentored Courtney, we went to the movies together, went out for her birthday dinner and I helped her to write her resume one afternoon. I used the small group activities grant to pay for the movie tickets, meals and other costs, which was a great help and allowed us to do more activities over the year that we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Courtney and I built a great friendship over the years and I can't wait to catch up with her and do the abseil together." – Aimee Dawson, LYF Mentor and 2018 Camp Director
