So, maybe quite stupidly, I've signed up for a 12km trail run at Alligator Creek on the 8th April, and have decided to fundraise for the Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals centre.
The number of animals adopted or bought by irresponsible pet owners is astounding; people unsure of how to look after the animal they've got, and so neglect or abuse the animal. As a result, the creature ends up abandoned, injured, anxious and alone, and rescued by foster and rehoming shelters, simply because people cannot be bothered to look after their animal anymore.
I understand some circumstances of giving up an animal are uncontrollable, and that's why it is so important foster and rehoming animal centres exist.
The Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals centre have recently become overrun with abandoned animals; from pregnant dogs, to sick litters of puppies, to old cats and even guinea pigs. The centre work tirelessly to keep the animals alive, rehabilitate injured animals and work with the animals until they are ready to be adopted into their fur-ever homes.
The centre is fantastic. They:
- Take in pound animals from rural pounds
- Assist vet clinics with client animals needing rehoming
- Foster animals when their owners are hospitalised or from domestic violence situations
- Desex 20 free animals a year for the public
- Hand raise domestic animals that have lost their mothers
- Animal rehabilitation for abused animals until they are rehomable
- Take in canines felines birds and guinea pigs
- Give away 10 cats a year to elderly people needing a companion cat
I have grown up my entire life with rescue animals, rescued in varying states of distress. However, after providing them with a loving, stable and patient home, they all ended up unrecognisable from the day we adopted them. They became our family and best friends, and without amazing rehoming centres, we wouldn't have ended up with our furry family members!
That is why I am fundraising for the Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals centre - to give unwanted, neglected and abused animals a chance of rehabilitation and a second happy home.
They deserve every penny you can scrounge for the work they tirelessly do for animals and humans alike, so please help me reach my target of $1500 for this amazing centre. The money will be used for vet bills, animal food, rehabilitation, and general cost of caring for lots of furry babies!
From Dy'ah (aka Pepper) and Wicca and their new family. With many thanks
