Last year I had the pleasure of meeting the Saxby family and the beautiful Chloe. My husband, Luke, along with 21 other guys rode from Melbourne to Wollongong in the Ride for Chloe to raise money for Saving Chloe Saxby and Vanishing White Matter Disease. Now don’t get me wrong, the guys did the most amazing job. I was beyond proud of Luke and all the riders – you should have seen the tears I shed! Though what really blew me away was the courage, resilience and determination of the Saxby family. Whilst living with Vanishing White Matter disease daily, they’ve raised $1M for research towards the cure which just blows me away.
BUT more money is needed to cure this disease. Being so rare – there are only a handful of children in Australia and around the world with this condition – it is difficult to attract funding to support research; so this is where we hope to make a difference.
On one of our usual Saturday morning walks, not long after Ride for Chloe, a few of us girls were discussing what we could do to help the Saxbys reach their funding goal of $2.6 million. We quickly dismissed the idea of riding a very long distance on a very small bike seat (again, amazing guys). Angela had the idea of riding tandem bikes and I think roller blading may have entered the conversation – both were vetoed thankfully. But we realised we can walk… and so the idea of Walk for Chloe came about – 100 women, 100kms, $100,000!
On the 4th of May, there will be 100 women departing Point Nepean and walking into Federation Square over 2 days.
Please help us reach our goal and spread the word for Chloe and the Saxby family. Any support is greatly appreciated.
Great Job all
