Over the past month Julie's youngest son Nick, had been getting nose bleeds and bruising. His father also suffers nose bleeds so it was assumed Nick was suffering the same.
On Saturday night Nicks nose bleed was quite substantial and he was taken to Emergency. On Sunday afternoon Nick was sadly diagnosed with Leukaemia and rushed to Lady Celinto Hospital in Brisbane.
Being this time of year and Julie only just completing 3 weeks unpaid placement to gain her degree in Nursing - all spare funds have been depleted and she needs our help with daily costs involved for her and Nicks brother and sister, Chloe and Jake to live nearby and care for Nick during his unfortunate journey. As Julie is unable to work there is no income until a Government Carer's Payment will be received, which she has been told will be about 10 weeks. This is a long time with no income at all - so let's see what we can all do to help the family during their time of need.
If you can donate a little - it can go a long way. Daily costs involve food supply, accomodation and parking costs, mobile phone, car repayments - all the everyday costs that we all endure.
All three are required to relocate to accomodation close to Lady Celinto Hospital in Brisbane to enable a family member to be with Nicholas at all times, at the request of the Doctors. This will be for 6 months or more and then ongoing treatments regularly for 12 months.
....Nick's journey so far....
Yesterday (Tuesday) we found out after Nick had a bone marrow aspiration plus up-teen blood tests, he has APML - Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia which is a rare sub-type of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He is one of only 8 children in Australia to have this form, however, thankfully it is one of the most treatable.
When Nick was told this, his response was "well at least me getting it might stop one other kid from getting it"....bless him, he is being so brave.
Yesterday he had surgery to put in a line from his chest to his heart and two bone marrow samples done, one of which is being used for research.
Nick starts chemo today (Wednesday) and will be in hospital with his family by his side until probably September/October, with hopefully a couple of weeks here and there to come home.
As Julie said "I cannot explain the feeling of a mother to see your child with such a horrible sickness. But he’s a tough young man and is going to kick this shit fair in the face!"
"Thanks to all the support so far from family and friends, it means the world to us as life has just been turned upside down. Chloe my daughter is here with me and she has been my rock and Nicks personal nurse doing everything she can to make him feel good"
If you would like to donate direct to Julie and not through this cause page, please email km.hosking@hotmail.com for direct banking details.
Thank you to all for reading our cause and remember every little bit helps. Never in our wildest dreams did we ever imagine that this would be happening.
Help Julie be with her 13 year old son Nicholas, who has just been diagnosed with Leukaemia - sadly one week before Christmas.
