I am a student teacher from VU in Project Partnership with Lynall Hall Community School (LHCS), raising money to fund a student designed school hoodie.
LHCS Richmond is the original of a now multi-campus Vic State Government alternative school, founded in the 1970’s as a community effort to get kids off the streets and back into education and vocational training for the betterment of their future.
Today, this beautiful art deco building in Richmond still provides a unique and inclusive learning setting to a small, diverse and vibrant cohort of learners aged between 12 – 20 years. The main focus is to develop the social, emotional and educational needs of its students with the aim of providing successful learning for individuals and promoting a culture of excitement for lifelong learning.
The inspiration of this Fundraising Project came from a student who expressed that she wanted a school jumper so that people would stop assuming she was skipping school all of the time. Meanwhile, another student has been designing the school hoodie well before my time commenced here, so he is thrilled about this project! After collecting data from a student poll, more than 90% of the students surveyed were in favour of the idea, of which 70% are actively part of the process of making it happen.
Your donation towards this Project will help to provide the students with: warmth during the colder months, a sense of belonging, ownership and pride. It will also contribute towards helping the students learn employability skills such as team work, problem solving, communication, practical numeracy and self-management.
While there is an apparent lack of departmental funding towards peripheral expenditures such as this, I call on my friends, family and associates to support my project and open yourselves to the idea of being a part of this fantastic opportunity. Thank you all in advance for your kind support, no donation is too big or small. xx
