On June 1st 2017, my family went through one of the hardest things any family has to go through... we lost a family member, we lost our stepdad. We were more fortunate than some in a way, as we had a chance to say goodbye, one thing we will be eternally grateful for. Not that it made it any easier to lose him, it just meant we had a chance to tell him we loved him more than anything. The reason I am choosing to fundraise for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, with donations being directed to the Intensive Care Unit, is because the one thing that did help, was the staff in the ICU and palliative care unit. The work they do is quite simply remarkable. The level of care and compassion that not only my stepdad, but me, my mum and our families received was what made the difference. The care my dad received was second to none from each person that looked after him and treated him like a real person, not just another patient. It was all the small gestures that made the difference. My dad can not thank you himself for the care that was shown to him, so this is simply a gesture of thanks to all the staff within the ICU and we hope that the donations they receive may assist in some way to help them continue to do the incredible work they already do. #thisonesforlloyd
