When I traveled to South East Asia (March - June 2017) I met some incredible people and saw some amazing places however as much as I loved everywhere I went one country specifically pulled at my heart strings, Cambodia.
Cambodia has been through some horrific suffering in it's history, particularity during 1975 - 1979 when the he murderous "Khmer Rouge" were in charge of the country. Estimates claim that up to 3 million people were killed during those 4 years of suffering. The Khmer Rouge persecuted the educated - such as doctors, lawyers, and current or former military and police.
Education is now more important then ever in a country like Cambodia where the people are wanting to learn and grow, develop their skills and bring Cambodia out of its dark history into a thriving country where everyone is equal and has the access to education, no matter their individual background.
I was told by a friend I met in Vietnam that if I am going to Cambodia I MUST visit the Samart school! The country had already won me over with their warm and welcoming locals, untouched natural beauty and incredible culture. Visiting this school just grew the love I had already for this country even further.
Mr. Song Smart is the founder of this NGO and an extremely hard working man who needs as much assistance as possible to keep the school up and running and growing to support even more kids. You can learn more about the school at their website and via the links and blogs that I will be posting.
With this fundraising campaign my aim is to assist them with a current project of there's which is to supply 60 school desks for their students (and if we can squeeze an additional $1600 AUD supply 3 desktop computers for their teaches)
every single dollar will be a huge help and to think, something as simple a desk (something I'm sure we all take for granted) will be making an incredible change in a young persons life while being able to receive free education at Samart School.
Samart School is an NGO (Non-governmental organisation) that provides FREE, education for underprivileged children & young people in rural Cambodia. They are located 17km outside of Siem Reap. They also provide emergency accommodation, food and support to youth in need.
