About
I have never done this before but Lola and George's story struck a chord with me when I read it in the paper, and I knew I had to try to help this lovely couple save the home where they want to see out their twilight years.
Heritage listed as one of Melbourne's oldest buildings, Russell's Old Corner Shop was built in 1850. Lola has lived there since she was one-month old and inherited the building in 1970. She and George, and their family before them, have maintained this precious old building over the decades but they don't have the money needed to save it from collapse now.
I'm always banging on about the importance of preserving Melbourne's heritage buildings so it's time to practice what I preach and throw my weight behind Lola and George's cause.
Please help me to help them save this Melbourne treasure.
The oldest shop-and-dwelling in Melbourne - heritage-listed Russell's Old Corner Shop - is falling down and its 93-year-old owners - Lola Russell and George Dixon - will have to spend at least $30,000 to save it from collapse or they will be forced to leave.

I am literally just reading of this little building in the book "Remembering Melbourne". As one who was born right in the middle of the city, I have a deep affection for Melbourne, and I as I've aged, I have become aware of how valuable it is to know the history of where you were born and to be able to pass that history on. I cherish this link to my past and I want to be able to see it until I can see no longer.
