I'm going to cycle 55km a day for the whole month of March in order to raise money for for development projects run by Bicycles for Humanity, Melbourne both in Australia and overseas. Cycle for Humanity actually asks riders to cycle 110km over the month, so that together with 99 others, riders cover 11,100kms which represents the distance between Melbourne and Namibia, where most of the container load of bikes are sent. I set myself a little bit more of a challenge.
Last year I was fortunate enough to spend 6 months in Namibia working directly with B4H partners, and seeing first hand the value of the work that they do. I was also able to see how valuable the bikes we send are to the people who received them in Namibia. A bicycle can allow a child to travel to school, who might otherwise have been unable. A bicycle can mean that a nurse can visit many more patients in day, and lead to better health outcomes for entire communities. A bicycle can allow a craftsman to take many more wares to market, and sell enough to feed his or her family. A bicycle can literally change a persons life and change entire communities - something I saw first hand while living in Namibia. I hope you'll help me raise money for them to continue this fantastic work.
Every dollar donated goes directly towards buying the container and shipping the bikes donated to B4H, as B4H is entirely volunteer run. It costs $20 to get one bike to a new home in Africa and donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Thanks a lot for helping me support Bicycles for Humanity!
